Alta Alpina Morman Emigrant/Capps Crossing Century Ride 8/30

Tuesday, September 1, 2009

Why do we have this affliction for turning a hard Metric into a harder Century all the time? It's all Steve's fault. :)

A few of us decided to start at the top of Carson Pass and meet the others 17 miles away at the old Iron Mtn Ski area...even before that it was called Peddler Hill.

Heading up Carson Spur from Kirkwood.

After meeting up we had 18 miles of downhill at 35-45 mph....Oh Yeah! Happy Faces on that one. Tom, just behind Ellen.....all Tom did yesterday was 100+ miles and 10,000+ ft of climbing.

Now we have 7000 feet of up and down climbing on shaded, narrow forest roads.....

So here we are...all the guys, ages 12 to 60, waiting at the top of one of the many climbs while Ellen and Jennie fix a flat below.....nice chivalrous guys.....Trevor, Steve, Credence, Rick, Raz, Steve, and Robert. Well, at least Tom went back to help.

Lunch at Capps Crossing.....the only place for water in 45 miles.

At one point we noted that we had ridden for almost 2 hours without seeing a vehicle.

What a great Alta Alpina ride. It has been called Tony's Tough Ride, Mormon Emigrant Loop, Capps Crossing and likely some names I can't repeat here.

Heading back on 88, Rick, Raz, and Robert....Thunder Mountain......

......Ellen and Jennie pulled us guys over Carson spur to Kirkwood Ski Area......

.....and the final insult back up to Carson pass with Rick.....

Thanks Jennie for leading this great club ride.
