Ride Date: August 1st 2010 Ride Title: Mormon Emigrant Rd Loop
Ride Leader: Jennie Hamiter
Leader Phone: 775-782-4848 Email: jenniehamiter@mac.com
Type of Ride: road Pace: Medium Terrain: Hard
Depart Time: 10 am Mileage: 70
Meeting Place: The Iron Mountain Sno-Park parking lot: Mormon Emigrant Trail is off Highway 88, about 12 miles west of Kirkwood. Turn right on Mormon Emigrant, go about 0.5 mile - the parking lot is on the left. Carpool from Hope Valley (Burnside Lake parking lot) at 9:15. Contact me if you want to carpool from the Carson Valley.
Description: A bit out of the way, but worth the drive. Most of the loop is on small, very lightly traveled Forest Service roads, most with very good pavement, though there's one stretch that definitely requires good tires. These are remote roads, no stores, so please be self-sufficient. We'll regroup at all intersections, and at Capps Crossing Campground, which is about halfway through and you can get water there. In answer to a common question, this isn't the same as the Packsaddle Pass ride - this ride stays on the south/west side of Mormon Emigrant Trail.
Ride Date: August 1st 2010 Ride Title: Wild Hillacious Bonus Metric/Century
Ride Leader: Twain Berg
Leader Phone: 7759016043 Email: sagebum@charter.net
Type of Ride: road Pace: Medium Terrain: Hard
Depart Time: 8:30 Mileage: 104
Meeting Place: Kyburz. CA on Hwy 50. Not sure of the exact location to meet and park but this place is small. Be ready to ride at 8:30 sharp or play cathup. Start earlier if you need.
Description: Jennie Hamiter posted the Mormon Emigrant ride for Sunday and we decided to make this a Wild Hillacious Century Series "Bonus Ride" http://www.altaalpina.org/hillacious/HillaciousSeriesIntro.htm Jennies loop starting at Iron Mtn will serve as the Metric Century with about 74 miles and 7000 ft. Miler Century riders will start at Kyburz on Hwy 50 and proceed up Silver Fork Road to rendevous with Metric riders at the junction with Mormon Emigrant Rd. Century route is 10,000 ft of climbing. Except for a short distance on Hwy 88 with a good shoulder, this is entirely on small, nearly trafficless Forest Service paved roads. Water at 7 miles, 47 miles and at the Metric start on Hwy 88 and Morman Emmigrant. Be prepared to bring food for lunch at mile 47. This is a self supporting ride but very doable if you plan for it. If you want to place food or clothing at the Metric start that you can access as we go thru, contact Jennie via email. She will tell you where and when to bring it.
